Unwind & Recharge

It’s that time of the year again! The festive season is over, it’s the middle of winter and Easter feels like a long way away.  The drawn out winter months are the best time to unwind and recharge.  Here are my top relaxation tips, which help me feel rejuvenated:

  1. Long Hot Baths, A Good Face Mask & Body Scrub: When it’s cold and wet outside, I like nothing more than a long hot bath with a good face mask.  I find the whole experience so soothing and comforting.  I always finish my bath with a body scrub and emerge feeling refreshed with baby soft skin.  I must credit MintdBox for always keeping me stocked with the most luxurious skincare products.
  2. Home Cooking: With the long evenings, I enjoy cooking my meals from scratch.  It’s a great way to save money and I love knowing exactly what is in my food.  I love trying new recipes from my cookbooks and comfort food is always a winner.  If I have time, I even like to make my pasta from scratch.
  3. Quality Time With Family & Friends: Now that the busy festive season is over, I have much more time to spend with family and friends.  Nothing beats relaxing with the people who mean the most to me, usually over good food – those are my favourite times.
  4. Digital Detox: Like most people, I can also get stuck on my phone scrolling though Facebook updates, Instagram photos, news updates, weather updates and wellness blogs.  Reducing screen time has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety.  If you don’t think you are able to avoid time-wasting websites completely, I would recommend turning off any notifications that you receive from these social media sites and websites.  That way, they are not constantly drawing you in and you get to choose when you use them.

Restorative Yoga At Bed Time: For a good night’s sleep I practice a 20 minute restorative yoga sequence made up of five yoga poses.  I relax in each pose for four minutes:

  1. Caterpillar Pose
  2. Child’s Pose
  3. Reclining Twist Pose
  4. Legs Up Wall Pose
  5. Corpse Pose

Yoga helps to calm the mind, release physical tension and activates our parasympathetic nervous system (which is responsible for rest, relaxation & digestion). Many studies have also shown that yoga can help those who suffer from insomnia.

Energising Morning Yoga To Help Wake Up The Body: Yoga helps to reduce fatigue and moves energy around your body, which will leave you feeling revitalised.  I regularly practice the following poses in the morning to help open up my body and lengthen my spine:

  1. Easy Pose
  2. 3 x Sun Salutation A
  3. Standing Forward Fold
  4. Trikonasana Pose
  5. Wide-legged Standing Forward Fold
  6. Warrior 1
  7. Warrior 2
  8. Tree Pose
  9. High Lunge Pose
  10. Low Lunge Pose
  11. Seated Forward Fold
  12. Upward Plank Pose
  13. Boat Pose
  14. Locust Pose
  15. Sphinx Pose
  16. Cobra Pose
  17. Bridge Pose
  18. Wheel Pose
  19. Headstand
  20. Corpse Pose
